Both of these let the other person know you're online and will be able to see that you've read their message. By going through these steps Signal can be as safe as possible. There is no status or last seen indicator similar to some other apps like WhatsApp but by going through these settings we can adjust the privacy. These steps work the same for both iPhone and Android in 2021.
