In commemoration of the 175th birth anniversary of our Founder, Jamsetji Tata, the JN Tata Endowment brought together more than a hundred scholars of the Endowment for the first time from all over the world to celebrate the legend whose vision led to the establishment of possibly one of the first educational scholarships in the world.
The gathering was addressed by seven Tata scholars: Dr JJ Irani, former MD, Tata Steel, and former director on the boards of Tata Steel and Tata Sons; Dr Zaver Bhujwalla, professor of radiology and oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, USA; Dr Jayant Narlikar, founder and former director, and currently emeritus professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics; Dr S Ranganathan, NASI Senior Platinum Jubilee Fellow at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Dr Shujauddin Changi, research scientist in the R&D department of Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, USA; Dr Bijendra Jain, vice chancellor of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan; Dr Ramaswami Balasubramaniam, an advisory member of various organisations working in the fields of health and education.
About the JN Tata Endowment: The JN Tata Endowment was set up in 1892 by Jamsetji Tata, Founder of the Tata group, to encourage young people to take up higher studies at some of the best universities in the world. For the past 120 years the endowment has been helping scholars of merit realise their dreams of getting a world-class education through its loan scholarship programme.
