In 2014, forty-three student activists from Iguala, Mexico went missing in what is widely considered a case of collusion between corrupt local police and drug cartels. Ever since, thousands of protesters have been calling for 'justicia' (justice), with the slogan 'Vivos se los llevaron, vivos los queremos' (they took them alive, we want them alive).
At the 10 year anniversary of their disappearance, the same questions remain. What happened to these young people, and how were they so easily betrayed by those with the power to protect them? What is a politician's role if not to find answers and keep people safe?
All over the world, from Mexico, to South Sudan, from Hong Kong to Caracas, we are witness to governments and politicians complacent in the face of atrocities which they have the power to fight. For those politicians who promise to help us, and then quickly forget, this song is for you.
