Alan Lock is a Berkeley Leader who embodies resilience, innovation and perseverance. At age 24, while training to become a submarine officer with the British Royal Navy, Alan suddenly lost much of his sight due to macular degeneration. After his diagnosis, he opted to to move forward rather than give up -- amongst other things, becoming a Guinness World Record as the first visually impaired person to row across the Atlantic Ocean, and then becoming the first visually impaired person to trek to the South Pole. Alan’s accomplishments go beyond these physical feats; continuing to apply his problem-solving skills to complete his MBA, then to his strategy & operations role at British Telecom, and most recently to successfully starting his own business.
We will hear Alan’s story of incredible resiliency as part of the Week Zero theme, Aspiration@Haas. There will be time for audience questions at the end, but please note that priority will be given to Week Zero attendees.
