(12 Mar 2015) Hundreds of students marched through Rome on Thursday to protest against the education reform bill that the government of Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is trying to get through parliament.
The bill, known as the "Good School" bill, is a proposal to change the Italian public school system, eliminating the many substitute teachers and other temporary employees.
The proposal includes the hiring of 150-thousand new teachers.
The protesting students demanded a completely free education and reform of the teaching system.
Students want the government to consider a proposal made by students last August known as LIP - a Law for the Popular Initiative for a Good School.
On the same day in Milan, protesting students showered riot police with pink paint, while police responded with tear gas.
