Yesterday it was described by one mainstream newspaper as "one of the most excruciating media clips to circulate in recent weeks" ([ Ссылка ]). And that's saying a lot, if anyone's been following the media.
This song casts Alfie and Thomas, inevitably, as Simon & Garfunkel in a homage to their haunting classic "Sound of Silence" recorded in 1964 and - to our amazement as we discovered in researching it - originally titled "The Sounds of Silence" (which led to lots of arguments about which words to use). The rest of us support them with vocals, instruments (including some extra mandolin, violin, and cornet compared to the original). It pays tribute to the effective strategy of the protesters in Cambridge who refused to take the bait when offered, and used silence to humiliate an attempt by politician to exploit their actions for their own ends and headlines. Our followers will have met the politician in question before in our music...but this one's less of an earworm.

LYRICS:
Hello heartless Braverman
We saw your name trending again
Because your mission of self-seeking
Through the means of public shrieking
Met derision, and was made to look inane
Such disdain
Within the sound of silence
Pathetically you walked alone
Obsolete yet chaperoned
Took some fellow to a street camp
You were cold shouldered, yes your squib was damp
When you whined and blabbed – it was such a demeaning sight
That stinging slight
That crushing sound of silence
And in the TV lights we saw
Ten, twenty, people – not much more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
We all understand your voice is just hot air
No one cares
Prefer the sound of silence
Fools that like to huff and blow
Need some oxygen to grow
“Give us platforms” they’ll beseech you
Take alarm, as they might leech you
But her words like childish pindrops fell
Embarrassed and repelled by silence
As the sequence was replayed
It could have been “The Day Today”
Her realisation slowly dawning:
It’s not Kuenssberg in the morning!
And a sign said, “Openly Jewish
Against Visible Genocide”
But she walked by.
They’d dissed her with the sounds of silence.
