Originating in the hidden heart of Borneo, the Kinabatangan River winds its way for more than 560 kilometers – through soaring forests of fruit, past concealed limestone caves and across lowland riverine and mangrove forests – before feeding into the rich coral reefs of the Sulu Sea. We follow local wildlife photographer, Cede Prudente, as he captures the destruction, drama and diversity of life that the river supports in the hopes of raising awareness of the challenges facing the river system.
Being used for trade, transport and communication for centuries, the Kinabatangan River is the lifeblood of the local people. But changing times have led to an increase in deforestation to allow for agricultural growth. In this series we meet the locals, conservationists and of course the animals along the way and explore the dynamic between modern life and animal conservation.
