In today’s news, Zoox, an Amazon subsidiary, has begun testing its electric, autonomous robotaxis on public streets in Las Vegas. This is the first time a self-driving vehicle without pedals or a steering wheel has been tested on Nevada roads. The robotaxis can accommodate up to four passengers and travel at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. The company has previously tested its autonomous vehicles in Foster City, California. In Las Vegas, Zoox is expanding its operations and adding warehouse and office space to support its growing team and vehicle fleet. Nevada has more lenient regulations for autonomous vehicle testing compared to California, allowing Zoox to operate its robotaxis autonomously after self-certifying that they meet safety standards. This testing brings Zoox closer to its goal of launching commercial autonomous ride-hailing services.
