Robbi Mixon, Rachael Miller, and Kyra Wagner joined the panel of Episode 7. The COVID-19 pandemic has shined new light on the potential within local food systems. In Alaska, some food-based businesses are thriving as consumer awareness sky-rockets. Policies are rapidly evolving in response to community needs. However, before COVID-19, 1 in 7 people (1 in 5 kids) were chronically food insecure and since March demand for food assistance increased 75%. From farming to fishing, this panel discussed their varied and collective experiences in mitigating the challenges of COVID-19 and highlighted the collaborations and new opportunities that have arisen at the local, state and national levels.
