The UCLH/UCL Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) carries out translational research, turning pioneering scientific discoveries into new treatments that will directly benefit patients. In August 2011, the BRC was successful in its bid for further funding of more than £100m over the next five years. UCL is also the academic partner in three specialist centres- child health, ophthalmology and dementia - that receive funding from the National Institute of Health Research as part of the same scheme.
