Earth pigments
The most used natural pigments due to their ease and availability are the “earth” pigments, generally mineral earths, composed of different types of oxides, sulfites and carbonates.
There is a wide variety of ochraceous earths and colored clays.
With the earth pigments, different ranges of colors were obtained which, together with other mineral pigments, were used for centuries, both in exterior paintings and in wall paintings inside houses and churches.
The origin of the use of earth pigments dates back to the first artistic manifestations of humanity.
