Hey everyone, Welcome to my channel. Today I'll be sharing about the snake plant and its care. Snake plant is one of the best air-purifying plants you must have in your house.
We will be covering the following topics:
1. Pot selection
2. plant repotting tips
3. Soil Mix
4. Watering & Aftercare tips
What should be the reasons to repot?
1.Roots emerging from the top and drainage holes
2. A few plants grew around the mother plant.
3.It has been repotted long back [ 1 Year almost ]
Pot Selection:
Never use too big pot for your snake plant.
They love to be rootbound. This small pot will be enough for the smallest plant. If you plant this big plant in a smaller pot, that will be a big mess.
You have to leave space for new plants to grow from the mother plant.
For that, I'm choosing an 8-inch pot and for the smallest plant, I'm choosing a 6-inch pot. The bigger pot will hold more water inside. So, it may rot your plant.
The snake plant is one of the easiest plants to take care of. This plant is very forgiving and takes almost no care to survive. Snake plants can survive well in light conditions. But we have to understand every plant needs little sunlight. I don't repot my snake plants until they look way too big for the pot or don't have a few new plants around the mother plant. Now it is high time to divide them and repot them in different pots.
Repotting of snake plant:
To repot the snake plant, simply take the plant out of the existing pot and gently knock off all its media and cut each plant with a sanitized blade.
Now apply some fungicide and let it dry in the air.
Soil Mix For Snake Plant:
Snake plants are succulents. So, They store water in their rhizome and thick leaves. Snake plants like loose soil mix that drains water freely and well aerated. You may use store-bought succulent mix. But I'm using my own soil mix. I'm using 2 portions of stone chips and 1 portion of vermicompost. Now, place some soil in a new pot and set the plant on top of it.
Watering:
When you water your snake plants, water should be absorbed immediately. It shouldn't be sitting on the topsoil.
After Care:
I placed the plant where they were growing previously which helps the plant to recover from repotting stress. Allow the root to be established at least one month before applying any fertilizer on my snake plant.
Repotting snake plant is really very easy. That's all for today. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Happy Gardening.
