Usually a fan of Christmas carols but not feeling very Christmassy this year. It’s hard to celebrate and be joyous when we know what is happening in this world.
But of all the carols, I’ve always loved Silent Night and so I decided that would be the one carol I would play and post this year. There’s something a lot more solemn about it and not so happy-go-lucky (which I love!).
I personally have played this piece in a few different keys but this is nice and simple to play without any sharps or flats, and a nice lower register for my fellow musicians to play. When you start taking it up higher it gets a bit squeaky and loses its appeal a bit (IMO).
I’m a flute player from Cape Town and I’m out here winging it and playing the flute again after years of ignoring this beautiful instrument.
