Just a few years ago, the 21-storey 360 degrees towers under construction in Ikoyi were dubbed one of Africa's pride. With features of a 7-star hotel, it was the first of its kind in Nigeria, and so was it the cynosure of all eyes. Its owner and developer, Femi Osibona, marketed it as a luxury in the sky and promoted it as a "development that will give the resident peace of mind and comfort because everything works." Unfortunately, it looks like not everything was working, and as a result, both his dreams and his building have been reduced to mere rubbles.
This is coming after the 80 per cent completed building situated in Gerard Road, Ikoyi, collapsed on the ill-fated Monday, November 1, 2021. About 36 people have been confirmed dead so far. The Lagos State Emergency department claims that some people are still buried under the rubbles, as they try their hardest to evacuate them seven days after the collapse. Initially, many blamed the Lagos State government for the disaster, accusing its building control agency of negligence while the owner was seemingly shielded.
Sadly, after his lifeless body was found in the collapse site, new evidence has revealed that the building was indeed a disaster waiting to happen as the owner, Femi Osibona, was known for flagrantly ignoring consultants' advice cutting corners for some extra profit.
