I really just want to keep my MR03 but I want a car where most of the weight is down low. This Nexx Racing Skyline has a chassis plate that weighs in at 26g! I don’t need to add weight on the battery trays like I do on my MR03. I also like that I’m able to use the Kyosho Mini Z Evo board on this chassis. The swap was pretty straightforward and no special tool was needed.
Things I don’t like or I wish I knew before I bought the chassis:
1. PN T-Plate doesn’t fit the chassis.
2. Nexx Racing T-plate has side to side play. Hard to keep it square during the install.
3. Front servo box isn’t perfect fit. Threading the machined screws weren’t perfect fit. I didn’t cross thread it but it felt a bit tight.
4. Battery tray. Had to use foams to put the batteries in place. It didn’t come with anything to hold the batteries down and the batteries barely fits. The batteries are hitting the t-plate mount and door mount.
5. The screws on the T-plate hits the ground on full compression. This is on a car with 2mm ride height.
6. PN 94mm pod does not fit. Maybe I need to get the Nexx pod (which is not going to happen. I only really like PN aftermarket stuff).
7. PN Upper Caster Arms kit and MR03 stock front end doesn’t fit.
8. Removing Toe bar requires lifting the chassis plate (which isn't bad).
9. Stuck using the PN A-Arm and I'm not really a fan of that thing. I much prefer MR03 stock front end and as mentioned in #6, I don't plan on getting any Nexx Racing stuff so no V-line front end.
10. Somehow the right rear wheel is wider (sticks out more) than the left side even after changing wheels and diffs. I didn't get a chance to change the pod. It was .7mm wider on the right wheel.
What I like:
1. About 3mm lower than my MR03 when measured from the highest point of the cars, the damper screws.
2. Low Center Gravity. I can stack 2S per side which will be the same battery height as my MR03.
3. Wider than MR03. Chassis weight is well distributed.
*Update: 2/13/2023*
I drove the car and it has potential. I just hope I can run the stock MR03 frontend or at least the PN Upper Caster/Lower brace setup. The PN A-Arm is just very linear. It just blows through its travel even with stiffest springs. If you use those spring cups to limit the travel, you're pretty much riding without front suspension while cornering. On highspeed or on-power sweepers, the rear end just wants to whip around because the front just dives in the corner. That said, I took the car apart and went back to my MR03.
