여야, 부동산 정책 두고 입장차…"부동산 안정화" vs "근본적 대책 아니다"
The string of policies announced on Wednesday didn't go down well with the opposition parties.
They questioned practicality of the new measures in controlling the real estate market,... while expressed concern that tax hikes on the wealthy could end up having the unintended effect of hurting regular people.
Kim Min-ji reports from the National Assembly.
The ruling Democratic Party of Korea has agreed to work with the government... so that the impact of the new measures to cool down the property market kick in as soon as possible,... but the opposition parties are not on the same page.
The main opposition Liberty Korea Party said the measures lack fundamental solutions... to tackle surging property prices.
"The government cannot beat the marketplace. There needs to be a fundamental review of anachronistic regulations. And there are too many policy measures that go against market principles."
The minor opposition People's Party also criticized the measures,... adding that policies unveiled by the government in June,... saying they failed to curb rising prices.
It went on to say that the administration should learn from rather than repeat the mistakes of the previous liberal Roh Moo-hyun government a decade ago.
"The approach to this overheated market needs to be a more systematic. If not, we could end up with a repeat of the policy failures of the former liberal government."
The splinter conservative Bareun Party also said the new policies are too mixed up with those of the liberal Roh administration.
It argues that the task of cooling off the market will require more than clamping down on speculation... as a fundamental problem, it says, is a lack of housing supply.
"I hope that measures will not become Season Two of the past liberal administration's policies."
The opposition parties are also against the government's proposal on tax reform.
They say that... although the government claims it will only apply to top income earners,... the increase could trigger a domino effect,... where the burden could extend to average citizens.
They have also called on the government to reveal how it plans to reduce spending, rather than relying on tax hikes.
The bill will soon be submitted to the National Assembly for deliberation before it's put up for a vote,... but the bill is almost certain to face some hurdles... in the opposition-led parliament.
