The Battle of Midway，a major battle in the Pacific war during World War II, took place from June 4th to 7th, 1942，six months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea. The U.S. Navy, commanded by Admirals Chester William Nimitz, Frank Jack Fletcher, and Raymond Ames Spruance, defeated the Japanese Ccombined Fleet commanded by Isoroku Yamamoto, Chuichi Nagumo and Kondo Nobutake. The Japanese navy suffered a devastating blow in this battle, and it has never recovered. The Battle of Midway has been called "the most shocking and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare" by military historians, it ranks alongside Salamis, Trafalgar and Tsushima as the most tactically decisive and strategically influential naval battles in hisotry.
