Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has announced Wednesday, June 8th as the date for reading this year's budget, in a departure from tradition, where the budget would normally be presented on the second Thursday of June. The budget will be presented on a Wednesday to accommodate Uganda, which will be marking Heroes' day on Thursday, June the 9th. The 2011 / 2012 Budget is being presented against the background of less optimistic economic growth outlook, with a visiting delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cutting the fund's growth projection for Kenya down to 5.4%.
