Paul wasted no time and came in hot with the switch backside flip done exactly perfect. On top of that he’s wearing his first pro model shoe which I thought was such a sick touch. I’m dreaming that somehow nike does another run of these shoes because I never got a pair and I want to skate them so bad.

I loved that Prod went from switch backside kickflip to switch frontside heel flip so kind of a mirrored two piece and the way the music cut in with the stomping of his tricks made you really feel the energy of the trick and both tricks were done absolutely perfect.

The next clip is a line switch crook then switch back smith 180 out. I really appreciated the switch crook because sometimes less is more and starting the line of with a simple trick done to perfection almost makes it more relatable because crooked grind is a basic trick but done switch and pinched and popped like that really communicates how much time Prod has put into perfecting his craft.

Next the varian heel over the barrier thing was insane I’ve only landed a few varian heels so I can’t even imagine how he gets it so high to go up and over. Also this is one of only a handful of regular tricks that he does pretty much the whole part is switch.

And one thing I love about Prod is how his switch stance doesn’t look switch but it also looks slightly different from his regular stance. So you can tell when he’s skating switch but it’s almost like he has a separate style skating regular than he does skating goofy. It’s like he’s two skaters in one sort of a thing but neither of them skates switch haha.

Another thing I love about Prod is when he does flip out tricks he doesn’t check and to a mob sort of poked flip to get the board rotation he flicks out like a proper kickflip like what his knee lead the flick out like a normal kickflip. Personally if I ever do flip out tricks I’ll probably just cheat and mob it but I hope I can learn how to get enough pop out of a ledge trick to really flick on the correct way not to mention both the nollie front nose flip out and the switch back smith flip out he’s flipping out with his weak foot but there’s nothing weak about it. It’s just crazy how solid Paul Rodriguez’ fundamentals are going both directions but especially on his weak foot.

And he’s ender reemphasizes that point with the frontside flips regular and switch back to back. I love that he saved the big set of stairs for his switch frontside flip almost making a statement about how comfortable his going switch.

Including the intro graphic the part is only a minute 1:42 seconds but in that time there’s no question he made an impact a set the tone for the rest of the video. I only wish there was more footage but I appreciate the quality over quantity as well because all his footage was all gas no brakes start to finish. I do wish they would have ended the video with this footage though.

Something about define didn’t quite have the same crescendo like encore did in my opinion I think it would’ve been better to finish with Prod’s clips but I think putting himself as the opening part speaks to him trying to lead the way for the rest of the team and not trying to finish with the spotlight on himself. Obviously primitive is his company but Primitive will fail if it’s perceived as Paul’s company and not It’s own brand without him there. So I understand why he might not want to finish with his clips but I think I would have enjoyed it more and I think the clips would’ve had even more of an impact.

Things I’d change

I wish his clips ended the video I understand he doesn’t want to make primitive about him he wants primitive to stand on it’s own two feet but at the same time I think we came for Paul and stayed for primitive so I think these clips would’ve been more impactful if they were like a bonus part after Carlos Ribeiro’s part.
