In Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s CR17 report, she found that President Cyril Ramaphosa had deliberately lied to Parliament about a donation he received to his presidential campaign and had an improper relationship with African Global Operations (formerly Bosasa). The Public Protector further ordered that he be compelled to disclose who funded his campaign.
The Constitutional Court found that there was no evidence that the president personally benefitted from the donations made to the CR17 campaign. Judge Chris Jafta ruled Mkhwebane did not have the authority to investigate this.
