Our TOPIC: PASSION FOR GOD AND HIS WORD.
Today's SCRIPTURE: Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceed from the mouth of the Lord. Matthew chapter 4 verse 4. Hallelujah!
Our THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When a person has functional spirituality, they desire the Presence of God more than the presence of men.
In one of our previous studies, we saw spiritual hunger as a major proof of authentic and functional spirituality.
One who is spiritually buoyant has a healthy spiritual appetite.
So, your spiritual life is measured by the degree of your hunger for spiritual things.
In our study today, we shall be looking at more facts or proofs of authentic spirituality.
#1. Passion for God’s Presence
A major indicator of healthy, functional and authentic spirituality is passion for the Presence of God.
David, in Psalm chapter 27 verse 4, says,
One thing have I desired of the Lord that will I seek after that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
The passion of David was to settle or camp with God.
When a person has functional spirituality, they desire the Presence of God more than the presence of men.
As a matter of fact, when people desire the presence of men more than the presence of God, something is wrong with them, spiritually speaking.
#2. Appetite for the Word of God.
Job chapter 23 verse 12 says,
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
This is a healthy spirit.
Beloved, I would like to ask you a question: when you wake up in the morning, do you crave for food first or to hear God first? Do you crave to check your phone first or you crave to check the Word of God first?
My counsel is, crave for the Presence of God; crave also for His Word above all things.
Remember this: When a person has functional spirituality, they desire the Presence of God more than the presence of men.
Take this ASSIGNMENT with you:
#1. Make up your mind to spend time with God to reignite your spiritual fire and fervency.
#2. Discipline yourself to study the Word of God on a consistent basis. Yes sir!
Our PRAYER today: Lord, I receive the grace to camp in Your Presence. Help me to be diligent in studying Your Word and following Your precepts, Lord, in Jesus Name. Amen!
