This step-by-step video guide is specifically designed for healthcare professionals, and we'll show you how to insert the Provox Vega and Provox Vega XtraSeal voice prostheses. The Provox Vega series is designed to improve the lives of people who have undergone laryngectomy.
Before you begin the insertion process, ensure you have the right Provox Vega voice prosthesis with the appropriate shaft diameter and length. It's crucial to position the prosthesis correctly on the insertion pin, firmly attaching it to the safety strap and pushing it into the blue ring of the prosthesis.
Follow these simple steps for a successful Provox Vega insertion:
1. Ensure the insertion pin is positioned all the way into the folding device and has clicked in place. Squeeze the folding tool's sides to fold the esophageal flange.
2. Twist and lock the loading tube onto the insertion pin, aligning the blue ring of the prosthesis with the visible ring on the loading tube.
3. Once the voice prosthesis is inserted into the loading tube, unlock and disconnect the folding tool.
4. Carefully enter the puncture with the loading tube tip, stabilizing it with one hand while maintaining contact with the patient's chest or neck.
5. With your other hand, push the ribbed surface of the insertion pin's proximal grip area until your thumb reaches the loading tube. This action unfolds the esophageal flange in the esophagus. Maintain a firm grip on both the loading tube and insertion pin.
6. Pull the insertion pin and loading tube straight out from the puncture until you feel the esophageal flange reaching the anterior esophageal wall. Then, continue pulling out just the loading tube to unfold the tracheal flange.
7. Ensure the prosthesis is correctly positioned by gently rotating and pulling the insertion pin.
8. Remove the insertion pin from the voice prosthesis, leaving it attached to the safety strap.
9. Use the Provox brush to clean the voice prosthesis, and ask the patient to speak and drink to ensure proper functionality.
10. Align the safety strap downwards, and cut it while it's still attached to the insertion pin. Then, remove the insertion pin together with the strap.
Congratulations! Your Provox Vega voice prosthesis is ready for use.
