To celebrate our 20th anniversary, the European Chamber hosted a 'VIP Webinar Series' in May 2020 with the world’s leading industry experts, scholars, political consultants and strategists, on a variety of topics including economy, politics, technology, sustainability, EU-China relation and EU-China-US triangle. The webinar series were well received and attracted over a thousand attendees.
This webinar was held on 22nd May. While China’s entry into the WTO generated a rush of investment and a boom in trade, it was not without a barrage of challenges. As countries look increasingly inward and the multilateralism comes under threat, what can the European trade stalwarts advise us on the new issues of today? How can systemic rivals still remain friendly competitors and reliable partners? Will the old concerns of subsidies and regulatory barriers be muted by new ones of cyber-security, state-sponsored investment, and corporate take-overs. Against a bleak economic outlook where is decoupling most and least likely to occur? European Chamber President Joerg Wuttke led a webinar discussion with VIP guests on China's trade and investment scenario.
VIP guests joining the discussion include:
- Cecilia Malmström, Former EU Commissioner for Trade,
- Pascal Lamy, Former European Commissioner for Trade, Former Director General of the WTO,
- Jürgen Hambrecht, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, BASF.
