The term Bryophyllum is derived from Greek word bryein means sprout and phyllon means leaf. That is the plant which germinates from leaf.
The plant is from genus kalanchoewhich has around 40 species in the group.It is native to South Africa and Madascar.Several species are found to be cardiotoxic to sheep and cattle.Bryophyllum pinnatum contains the chemical bufadienolide which is an alkaloid.It is commonly called as mother of thousands.This is also known as Cathedral bells,life plantand Goethe plant.In West Bengal it is called "Patharkuchi" In Hindi it is Called"Pattharchatta"
Many people grow it in their Garden or pots as ornamental plant.
