The coalition government of Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress in Karnataka has been in trouble since the day it was sworn-in. The state assembly elections, held in May last year, threw a fractured mandate. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as a single largest party with 104 seats and staked claim to power. But moments before the floor test to prove majority in the house, CM BS Yeddyurappa resigned. Soon Congress, which had 78 legislators, and JD (S) with 37 MLAs came together to form the government.
