A limelight was made by heating a piece of lime (calcium oxide, not the fruit) in an oxyhydrogen flame. Here I'm just using my blowgun torch to heat a piece of lime which I made by roasting limestone over a flame for a few minutes. Limelights were used as spotlights in theater which is where the phrase "in the limelight" originated
