Yes - I accept that I should have stayed behind him. But that doesn't give him the right to hit me with his car (he hit my leg and bike but no damage to the bike), especially when I wouldn't have impeded him anyway since I would have been gone before he even would have reacted to the light.
They were a bit excited because there was 3 of them and only one of me but what they don't realise is that there was 6 or 7 bikers around them (1 in front and several behind) and had they become physical, those bikers would have stepped in.
