Sunday 9th August 2015 saw the second 'Waverley' railtour of the year organised by the Railway Touring Company and operated by the West Coast Railway Company. The motive power for the tour, beginning at York and Leeds before traversing the Settle and Carlisle Line to Carlisle and return, was in the form of LMS Stanier 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 45690 'Leander'. Based at Carnforth, the 'Jubilee' would travel light engine up to Hellifield in the early morning, taking over from the diesel at Hellifield.
My first location was Kirkby Stephen. I arrived with about and hour to spare, and killed some time at the nearby Stainmore Railway (see seperate video) before 45690 was due. I had planned to head up to Long Marton once the railtour had stopped for water at Appleby, but knew it would be a close call if i could beat it there. After the tour rushed through the station, two minutes early, the race was on to beat it up to Long Marton. I only had a couple of minute to spare, but overtook 'Leander' at Appleby. 'The Waverley' is seen at Long Marton accelerating away from Appleby bound for Carlisle.
I hope you all enjoy the video. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
