Crimes are not only committed by individuals but also by groups. What do criminal groups look like, who are they made up of? How common is group offending? We will break down the common demographics, such as gender and age, of multiple offenders.
A significant proportion of crimes, approximately a quarter, are committed by multiple offenders. Younger individuals are more prone to engage in criminal activities as part of a group, and there are no gender differences observed in group offenses. In individual offenses, for every eight male offenders, there is typically one female offender. Males tend to commit crimes in groups when they are young and individually as they grow older, while females do not exhibit age-related effects in their criminal behavior. Young individuals are two to three times more likely to engage in group offenses compared to when they are older.
