The goal of the mural was to inspire wellbeing, create a visual healing tool. The mural theme depicts images of the well being, healing tools/techniques, with symbols and words of kindness. The artist collected stories from the community to integrate participation, civic engagement, community building and create support networks.
OBJECTIVES
A mural to educate, learn, share and create an appreciation for public art as a tool for transformation, civic engagement, healing and cultural preservation through community art making. The community of volunteer participants and sponsors worked and collaborated to create a permanent community collective mural.
The end results of the mural:
1. Have an understanding of the importance of mural making as a healing tool (media literacy)
2. Learn collaborative skills during the process of mural production and design..
3. To create and share a community public interactive mural for generations to come.
5. Collaborate as a team with youth and families service organization/s.
6. Self empower local residents and small businesses to create and encourage public art making.
7. Encourage and promote cultural spaces for families and communities.
8. To beautify open spaces.
Visions of Healing by Lead Artist Lilia Ramirez (Liliflor Art), art and mural making as a healing tool, servicing youth and their families in Pasadena. Youth involvement in 2 workshops focusing on theme and design with two La Cultura Cart workshops and celebratory painting parties.
