Yeah, so this set up had some issues. Obviously it went through the ugly stage which I talk about, but then it just didn't improve. After nearly a week, I realised that the scavenged plants I used were rotting and the tank was giving off an awful sulphur (rotten egg) smell. The water parameters were still ok, so I decided to keep part of the water and just replace the plants.
I was going to pop some fish in towards the end of this video, but although expert opinion noted that as long as the water parameters were ok (and the oxygen content wasn't too low), I decided to leave it again to settle before I put the fish in - just in case I had to start from scratch!
So, yes - here's a little video of my miniature disaster. I actually prefer the end result but wish me luck that this one works...
