In a significant development, Union Minister Anurag Thakur addresses a cabinet briefing and reveals that the Krishna water dispute tribunal has approved the allocation of 1000 million cubic feet of water. This historic decision stems from a complaint filed in 2004 by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra to the central government under the Inter-State River Water Dispute Act of 1956. Now, the Second Krishna Water Tribunal has introduced new terms of reference, aiming to allocate Krishna river water separately to both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, distinct from the previously allocated Andhra Pradesh water.
Minister Thakur also discusses the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act of 2014, which included plans for a central tribal university for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. While Andhra Pradesh established its university in 2019, Telangana faced delays in land acquisition. However, with the land acquisition resolved, the central government, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of the central tribal university, Sarkka, with an allocation of 889 crores.
