I've been experimenting all year with double and single brood boxes. After the heat of the summer and the stress it placed on the bees, the proof is in the pudding. The double brood boxes have just done so well. I've lost 3 queens so far during the wind down and they've all been in single boxes - boxes that have required constant feeding for the past month. The doubles have done great.
