Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted on charges of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. A year ago the killing ignited a wave of international protests in a movement for racial justice. On Tuesday, outside the Minneapolis court house there were celebrations and sighs of relief. In New Jersey poignant and peaceful gatherings as demonstrators blocked traffic on Teaneck Road for 9-and-a-half minutes, the amount of time Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck while making an arrest.
Wednesday, state officials announced 2,961 new, positive cases and 46 new deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 865,733 cases in the state and 25,271 confirmed and probable deaths.
