The FDA could pull some popular cold and allergy medications from store shelves after the agency determined that a key ingredient doesn't actually work. Oral phenylephrine, found in over-the-counter medications such as NyQuil, Benadryl Allergy Plus Congestion and Sudafed PE, has been found to not relieve nasal congestion as advertised. If the FDA moves forward with its proposal, drug manufacturers using this ingredient will be forced to reformulate their products.
