Opened in 1461, the city’s Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world with 60 streets and 5,000 shops.
The city was the most crowded city in the world till 1840, when London took over the title.
Due to it’s rich history, the city had a lot of names including Byzantium, Stamboul and Tsarigrad, but most popular of them is Constantinople in the name of the roman emperor Constantine.
