US Military Completes Withdrawal From Junta-Ruled Niger | Firstpost Africa
The last remaining US troops have pulled out from Niger months after the order by the country's junta. Around one thousand US troops were present in Niger to fight the Islamic terrorists linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS who have waged an insurgency in the region for a decade. But these troops were ordered to exit in April, in an embarrassing setback for the us. Niger claimed that the presence of US Soldiers was "Illegal" and gave the troops a deadline of September 15 to withdraw. This comes as the military governments of Niger and neighbours Mali and Burkina Faso have ditched Western partners and have forged closer ties with Russia. Watch the video for more details.
