(10 Oct 2013) US Secretary of State John Kerry met Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang in Brunei on Wednesday.
He was expected to try to cool tensions over territorial disputes in the South China Sea, as he's also set to meet with the leaders of the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
US officials said Kerry would call on the Chinese to accept a binding code of conduct to govern maritime behaviour until disputes with the ASEAN states are resolved.
Kerry is filling in at the summits for President Barack Obama, who had to cancel his participation due to the partial government shutdown in Washington.
