STORYLINE
Former Argentine president Carlos Saul Menem went to court in Buenos Aires on Thursday at the request of a federal judge.
Federal Judge Julio Speroni is investigating Menem for alleged irregularities during his time in government including the illegal sale of weapons to Ecuador and Croatia.
About 200 people gathered in support of Menem outside the capital's federal court building holding banners, waving flags and shouting Menem's name.
Mercedes Landa, a member of the Peronist political movement said Menem had never been proven guilty of any of the charges against him.
A group of regular and anti-riot police guarded the building's main entrance.
Menem was under house arrest for more than six months back in 2001 under the same charge of illegally selling weapons.
