The document that could dictate the future relationship between the UK and the EU after Brexit, has been agreed by the negotiators and also agreed in principle by politicians.

Now, before everyone either lets their blood pressure rise too high or breathes a sigh of relief, there is still a long way to go before this becomes effective.
It still has to actually get signed off by the EU, possibly on Sunday, and then it has to come back to Westminster for our own politicians here in the UK to agree to it, which may be the big stumbling block given the riven factions of in/out and left/right power plays going on there at the moment.
The PM is said to be planning an announcement to the House of Commons this afternoon at 2:30, according to Labour Whips.
Anyway, back to the here and now. Donald Tusk, the EU Council President, just Tweeted:
“I have just sent to EU27 a draft Political Declaration on the Future Relationship between EU and UK. The Commission President has informed me that it has been agreed at negotiators’ level and agreed in principle at political level, subject to the endorsement of the Leaders.”
The BBC’s Brussels reporter, Adam Fleming, Tweeted:
“1st reading of draft Political Declaration:
1. Something for everyone - ease of trade v level playing field, customs v independent trade policy, close but no 4 freedoms
2. maintenance of many existing security capabilities
3. LOTS to negotiate after 29/3”
The document itself is based on an earlier seven page version, which was remarkably vague so mostly ignored and is reportedly called: “political declaration setting out the framework for the future relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom”. Not sure if it’s made its way to the public realm yet.
Now talk of no four freedoms, will please Brexiteers, but this mention of “maintenance of many existing security capabilities” will worry many such as those at Veterans for Britain and me as well.
I expect this document will keep the politicians, pundits and me very busy for the next few days as its contents come out and are analysed.
So, what do you think? Please leave a comment below and thank you for watching.
