Ievan Polkka: A Finnish Folk Song Played with Renaissance Instruments
イエヴァンポルカ(ルネサンス風)
Arranged by BOBBY CYR,
Performed by Yasuhiko Higaki.
Note:
While browsing internet videos, I came across a very fun song called "Ievan Polkka," a Finnish folk tune. It seems it was popular a few years ago. The lyrics are very distinctive, like a tongue-twister, and the melody is a very enjoyable polka. So, I decided to perform this song using my usual Renaissance instruments. I searched on Musicnotes and found a beginner piano sheet music arrangement by Bobby Cyr. It's very simplified but I thought it would be suitable for performing with Renaissance instruments. The melody is mainly played by the bass dulcian, with the soprano recorder joining in a few times. The accompaniment is lively, featuring the bass racket, which produces surprisingly low sounds, two bass dulcians, and the Renaissance guitar. The background photo was taken by me in 2013 during a tour of a forest in Finland.
Please enjoy this Finnish folk tune in the style of Renaissance music.
