Pictures released by police and Highways England showed heavily damaged vehicles and debris scattered across the carriageway at junction 10 near Walsall. One of the lorries had jackknifed and spread its load - much of which appeared to be parcels in brown packaging. There was also a diesel spillage that needed to be treated, Highways England said. The Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) tweeted at 5.18am that there would be "delays in the area throughout the day". It added that "luckily" there were no injuries. Those travelling to football matches including Manchester United against Watford and Wolves at home to Norwich were warned to be aware of the situation. By early afternoon, Highways England said that "all vehicles have been recovered and work will now start repairing the central reservation barrier". At about 3pm, it said traffic was running both ways.
