If 'brevity is the soul of wit' then it is also the key to some of the best novels I have read this year. Helle Helle is well known in her native Denmark but completely new to me and this short novel is an excellent introduction. We follow a young woman named Dorte as she drifts through her early 20's. Relationships with men are steps along the way and her aunt is the unsure foundation on which she builds her existence. A sensuous novel in which major incidents are glossed over and the devil is in the details.
