One of the most common misperceptions about external camera microphones is that the buzz/hiss noise we hear is the microphone itself when it is usually the camera's pre-amp, which is an amplifier that makes the audio hearable. You can have a fantastic microphone, but if you plug it into a camera with a bad pre-amp, it will sound awful. Way back in 2008 to 2010, I couldn't even hear it until someone pointed it out, and now I can hear it all the time.
