NANAIMO - Nanaimo's Mayor says his city is as prepared as it can be if the big one strikes.
If an earthquake were to hit, a multi agency response team is in place. People are reminded if you feel the shake " Drop, Cover and Hold On ". Earthquakes happen unexpectedly. If you're driving, pull over and wait until the shaking stops. If you're indoors go under a desk or table.
Newer or updated buildings are considered to be safest in a natural disaster. A danger zone in Nanaimo, would be the downtown due to older brick buildings.
The city says be prepared for a minimum of 72 hours, if comfortable and safe stay in your own home.
A natural disaster can happen any place any time. You can't prevent it but you can prepare for it.
