LEBANON, Ohio (WKRC) - A Clearcreek Township man accused of killing his two-month-old son was arraigned on murder, felonious assault and child endangering charges. Cody Colwell denied the allegations in court.
Emergency crews were called to Colwell's home on April 11 for a child who wasn't breathing. Cayden Colwell was rushed to Atrium Medical Center and then flown to Children's Hospital. Cayden died a few days later.
Colwell is accused of assaulting the baby who had head trauma, a subdural bleed, loss of grey/white matter, retinal hemorrhages and detachment, according to investigators.
Colwell is also accused of abusing Cayden's brother.
Colwell was arrested in Kentucky and extradited to Warren County.
The assistant prosecutor asked the judge to set bond at $250,000, citing an extensive criminal history and a previous conviction for escape. He also said Colwell refused to be interviewed for pretrial services, which can also be used to help determine bond.
The defense said Colwell maintains his innocence. The attorney asked for a bond lower than $100,000 in which Colwell could post 10 percent to get out of jail. He said Colwell couldn't afford anything more.
The judge agreed with the assistant prosecutor and set bond at $250,000. Colwell is not allowed to have contact with any children if he gets out of jail.
