Collingwood Scenic Caves
Discover one of Canada’s great natural wonders and then enjoy summer and winter sports at this family-friendly adventure center.
Experience nature, history and adventure amid the stunning setting of Collingwood Scenic Caves. Explore caves that are hundreds of millions of years old, cross one of Ontario’s longest footbridges, hike to magnificent viewpoints and ski along miles of trails.
Go on a self-guided tour of the ancient cave complex and rock formations that lie partly underground. Step into the ice cave, where temperatures are so low that it remains icy for much of the year, including summer. Step inside the Bear Cave where it is thought that black bears used to sleep during the winter. Squeeze through an opening called the Fat Man’s Misery that is only 15 inches (36 centimeters) at its narrowest point.
The caves and surrounding area were once home to the Petun First Nations people. Visit the site of an ancient village to see the Indian Council Chamber, an area formed by cliff rocks where important meetings were held. Hike along trails to the tops of cliffs for unrivalled views of the countryside and Lake Huron. Walk across the 420-feet (126-meter) long suspension footbridge that travels above the treetops of the Niagara Escarpment.
