Today we are venturing around Laguna Beach showcasing the must-do outdoor activities while you are in town!
Welcome to our Series, Explore Like A Local!
Activity 1: Hiking + Mountain Biking
For a great hiking + biking workout with awe-inspiring views and steep hills, check out this advanced 4-mile loop: Big Bend - Laguna Ridge Trail Loop in Laguna Wilderness. Parking lot located off the 133 highway.
For a moderate hike, park at the Top of the World Park in Laguna Beach and take the West Ridge Trail in Aliso Canyon Wilderness for this out and back trip. This trail walks the ridgeline in Aliso Canyon and stretches 2.25 miles long, making your out and back trip a total of 4.5 miles. If you're looking to add on some extra miles, you can pop down into the canyon from any of the connecting trails.
For an easy, and leisure walk (hike), head over to Heisler Park near Downtown Laguna Beach. Heisler Park has lots to discover with a few miles of pathed walkways. You'll find art installations, trails that lead down to many of its beaches and coves and enjoy magnificent views as you stroll along.
For an advanced mountain bike loop, park at Top of the World Park and head down the West Ridge Trail to complete the Rock-It - Mathis Loop. This 6-mile loop will give you some great single track, twisting fun following a sweat-worthy climb.
E-Biking is a popular option to sightsee around Laguna Beach. You can cruise through the different Canyons lined with gorgeous, multi-million-dollar homes and stunning views, you can get around PCH to enjoy boutique shopping and restaurants, or you can head downtown and to Heisler Park for extra scenic beauty. There are a handful of E-Bike rental shops around town.
4:20 Activity 2: Yoga
Yoga classes are commonly done on the beach, Heisler Park, in a studio, or grab your mat or beach towel and guide yourself through a yoga flow. 6:15
Activity 3: Snorkeling + Scuba Diving
Snorkeling and Scuba Diving are popular water sports in Laguna Beach. The best time of year to be in the ocean is from mid-July - October where the water reaches its warmest temperatures - around 67 Degrees F, otherwise, you may want to consider wearing a wet suit. Laguna Beach is known for its kelp forest reef and tall pinnacles filled with sea sponges, big starfish, and gorgonian sea fans. While exploring underwater keep your eye out for a garibaldi fish! The best snorkel and scuba spots are at Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, and Diver's Cove. There are a couple of places in town that lead scuba and snorkel excursions.
7:52 Activity 4: Kayaking + Paddle Boarding
Similar to snorkeling and scuba diving, the best launch point is Crescent Bay. This cove is protected from the larger waves, making your paddle out a little smoother, though you may still want to take a look at the swells and tides for the day.
9:39 Activity 5: Surfing
Laguna Beach’s many beaches and coves offer a wide variety of surfing conditions. The best beach for beginner surfers is Thalia Street Beach. The waves break far off the coast, leaving the smaller whitewash waves for beginners. If you are more advanced, paddle out farther to catch the bigger swells.
