Ahead of Africa Climate Week, the Climate Clock launched a new lifeline: The Loss And Damage Lifeline.
For over a century, the richest countries have benefited greatly by burning fossil fuels that are causing devastating climate impacts around the world — droughts, floods, fires, loss of habitat, agriculture & livelihoods — mostly in “developing” nations. These real, material Loss & Damage costs caused by climate change can be calculated: $33.7 Trillion.
Paying this Climate Debt is a key climate lifeline, an essential climate solution to help the world meet its climate goals. These funds are needed by impacted nations and peoples to remediate the damage, adapt to a rapidly shifting climate, and provide the finances to pursue alternative development pathways towards a more just, sustainable future that benefit the entire world.
