At age 13, Najib Afghan was caught in the crossfires of the Afghanistan war, losing his brother in a rocket blast. He barely escaped and lost most of his left eye in the attack. The appearance of his original prosthetic eye impacted Najib daily - he was in constant pain and his prosthetic didn't not allow his eye to fully open, causing him to look disfigured. In fact it was often half shut, and when he was able to open his lid the prosthetic did not match his seeing eye, the iris pointed in the wrong direction and he felt like his eye didn't look alive.

Now he is in LA and in pursuit of the American dream. He's preparing to graduate from a top entrepreneurship program in the US, but before meeting Board Certified Ocularist John Stolpe, there was ONE THING HOLDING HIM BACK….

ABOUT JOHN STOLPE, B.C.O.:

John Stolpe is a Board Certified Ocularist through the National Examining Board of Ocularists. With a Focus On Patient Well Being, John Stolpe is a graduate of University of Southern California (USC) and was trained to make artificial eyes in Beverly Hills. His grandfather pioneered the modern artificial eye during WWII and after several years of training and receiving his Board Certification credentials, John took over his grandfather’s Tarzana practice where he currently operates today. John upholds his grandfather’s fundamental philosophies of ocularistry, and constantly strives to better serve patients by perfecting skills and incorporating the latest proven techniques in the field of ocularistry.

He is extremely proud to be the only ocularist who has ever passed his certification boards by using digital iris technology.
